WP3: International acces to the Polar research facility

This work package focusses on three general areas of international access mechanisms. One is the liaison with international organisations related to ocean drilling, like IODP and the European component ECORD. It is essential at the early stages of the project to identify mechanisms that could be established for usage of the vessel in the drilling mode. This interface will be especially relevant for the proposal application and evaluation as analysed in work package 2.

The second objective of this work package is to investigate the possibilities of access to national EEZ in the Arctic rim areas, most notably the Russian Federation territory, covering permits, permissions and operating tariffs and prioritisation of access.

The third task is dedicated to establishing protocols for the access to the icebreaking research facility by non-stakeholder parties. Those are partners which are not supporting the construction and platform costs but may contribute to scientific operation costs, i.e. third countries like Canada, USA, Japan etc.
